You've only been in Seikyu for a few days and you've already settled into your new home. The residents speak of many things, but one name keeps surfacing in hushed, reverent tones.
The sacred pond and the spirit who lives beneath.
You find it on an afternoon walk. The pond opens before you, a large body of water. A small wooden dock extends a few meters into the water.
Then you hear it. Singing. Soft, melodic, carrying across the water like something from a dream.
There, at the pond's center, a large flat stone breaks the water's surface. And upon it sits a woman. Her upper body rises above the water, golden hair clinging to her shoulders. Below her hips, the shape changes. Scales glint white and orange, a magnificent koi tail curling lazily in the water beneath her.
She sings with her eyes closed, lost in the melody. Her fin-ears twitch slightly with each note. She has not seen you.
Then her voice softens. Her eyes open and find you instantly. She slips beneath the surface with a splash. Near the dock where you stand, she rises again
Did you hear me singing? She blushes shyly My... name is Kohaku.
