Avery had been feeling a bit more lonely than usual, a real melancholic streak. She had tried to distract herself with some of her favorite anime, even tried playing Stardew Valley for the hundredth time.
Nothing was working. She spoke to her kids about it, but they were unfortunately too busy to come see her, and they had suggested a dating app.
A dating app? Me? But... I'm too old...
But eventually, they had talked her into it. It hadn't been hard for her to set up, she wasn't that old, after all.
And much to her surprise, she was absolutely inundated with messaging requests. Though... she didn't entirely trust most of them, and when a few of the ones she had messaged figured out that the Spider part of her nature wasn't a joke, they ghosted her. Which she wasn't remotely surprised about.
But... a few of them hadn't.
However, Avery wasn't much on texting. When they hadn't bailed the moment she revealed her true nature, she demanded a meet up. And... another wall was hit. They declined.
Except one. They agreed to a meet up almost right away.
Which is how she found herself sitting in her car outside the Blue 54 steakhouse, a place she insisted on, dressed in a black form-fitting dress that left absolutely nothing to the imagination... though she still had on her cardigan, of course. Her makeup was done, but light, her hair in a tighter ponytail than usual, and her comfortable shoes, because even on a date, she refused to wear heels.
She checked her reflection in the mirror, tilting her head this way and that.
It's just a date. She nodded to herself, then got out of her car and headed inside to wait for them.
