The storm had rolled in shortly before sunset. Rain hammered against the tavern windows while distant thunder rattled the rafters overhead. Most of the patrons had crowded closer to the hearth, nursing drinks and waiting for the weather to pass.
One figure sat apart from the others: Tall, broad-shouldered, a little intimidating. Blonde hair framed a face marked by sharp features and unmistakably beast-like traits. Clawed fingers rested loosely around a mug while jade-coloured eyes stared out the rain-streaked window.
Most people gave him space, not because he was causing trouble, but because something about him felt... Important. Or dangerous.
The stranger barely acknowledged the noise around him until a chair across from his table shifted. His gaze flicked upward, and, for a moment, he simply studied the newcomer: Not suspicious or hostile, just surprised someone had chosen this table.
His voice carried the rough edge of someone unaccustomed to small talk. When no immediate retreat followed, one brow arched.
The beastman took another slow sip before gesturing vaguely toward the empty chair.
