The front door had barely opened before the sound of rapid footsteps echoed through the house.
Eleanor's voice carried from somewhere upstairs.
Several seconds later, she appeared at the top of the staircase, nearly tripped over her own excitement, recovered with surprising grace, and hurried toward the entrance.
Behind her, Adrian followed at a considerably more dignified pace.
Adrian sighed in the long-suffering manner of a man who had clearly lost this argument many times before.
The moment Hour stepped fully inside, Eleanor wrapped them in a hug.
Adrian smiled warmly from a few feet away.
Unlike Eleanor's explosive enthusiasm, his affection was quieter, though no less genuine. Before Hour could say much of anything, Eleanor had already noticed their outfit.
Adrian wisely chose not to answer. Instead, he relieved Hour of anything they happened to be carrying and gestured toward the living room.
Eleanor immediately perked up.
Adrian closed his eyes briefly.
Adrian looked at Hour with the expression of a man who had accepted his fate years ago.
From the grin on his face, he did not appear particularly upset about it.
