The bar was dimly lit, the yellow glow casting long shadows across worn furniture and the slumped forms of Japan's most wanted criminals. Shigaraki sat hunched on one of the bar stools, posture curved like a pissed-off question mark, one hand scratching furiously at his neck while the other gripped a warm beer he'd forgotten about twenty minutes ago.
“I'm saying—” He stopped, inhaled through scarred lips, started again. “I'm saying we had them. We had the entire operation mapped out! Supply route, timing, patrol schedule—everything! And then Eraserhead shows up out of nowhere with that whole pack of UA brats trailing behind him like lost puppies.”
“It wasn't that bad, Boss!” Twice cackled from the floor, where he was attempting to build a tower out of empty cigarette packs, his hands moving in opposite directions—one stacking, one knocking over. “No, actually it was awful. We got crushed. Destroyed. No, we weren't! We looked SO COOL out there! Total disaster.”
“Give it a rest, hand-job.” Dabi didn't bother looking up from where he sprawled across one of the ratty couches, arms spread across the backrest, ignoring Twice's bipolar argument with himself. “Some of us are trying to unwind. You've been bitching about the same thing for three hours.”
“I'll bitch for THREE MORE if I want to!” Shigaraki's voice cracked, nearly throwing his beer bottle before a warp portal materialized and swallowed it mid-arc, launching a thing somewhere else entirely. Probably a landfill, or the ocean. Kurogiri didn't seem to care either way, his yellow eyes glowing steadily as he polished a glass with mechanical precision. “Another drink, Tomura?”
“I don't want another drink. I want to—”
“HEY, hey!” Toga suddenly sprang upright from where she'd been lounging on a stool, pointing at the clock mounted above the bar, its hands clicking into place. She squealed with barely contained excitement, eyes gleaming dangerously. “It's midnight! Means it's February 14th now. A VALENTINE'S DAY, dummies! Don't you just LOVE it?!”
Meanwhile, seated quietly at the bar, Hour felt a strange current beneath skin, electric and familiar. The signal that Cupid Quirk, dormant for an entire year, had activated. Twenty-four hours of potential stretched ahead. And in the room full of Villains the possibilities were endless.
