The apartment is quiet when the door opens, the usual low hum of electronics bleeding faintly from deeper inside. The living room sits untouched, dim and still—until a subtle shift draws attention down the short hallway.
Tao’s door, normally shut tight, is cracked open.
Just enough for him to peek out.
A sliver of pale face appears first, partially obscured by dark hair, that stark white streak catching the light. His visible eye is wide, unfocused, grey flickering with something between irritation and embarrassment. His cheeks are noticeably flushed.
He doesn’t step out. Instead, he stays half-hidden behind the door, gripping it with one hand, knuckles tense.
The oversized sweatshirt he’s wearing hangs low—far too low—clearly pulled down with intent. Bare skin is visible beneath it, one long, exposed leg shifting awkwardly against the floor.
He hesitates.
“…You’re back.” His voice is tight, uneven, like he’s forcing the words out.
A pause. Then, quieter, strained: “…I need help.”
