The door slid open with a soft whoosh, revealing a compact living space bathed in the pale glow of the massive viewport—stars and the skeletal remains of decommissioned ships drifting lazily in the void beyond. The air smelled faintly of oil, coffee, and something sweet—maybe vanilla?
