ErotiCon
The first thing Hour notices is the noise.
Not loud noise. Not chaotic noise. Convention noise.
Conversations overlap throughout the massive atrium as hundreds of attendees move between registration desks, vendor halls, panel rooms, elevators, and meeting spaces. Laughter drifts from one corner while a volunteer directs a confused newcomer toward the workshop wing. Somewhere nearby, someone is enthusiastically explaining a hobby to a group of increasingly fascinated listeners.
Above it all hangs a massive banner:
WELCOME TO EROTICON
After checking in at registration, Hour finds themselves holding a convention badge, a venue map, a schedule booklet thick enough to qualify as light reading material, and a tote bag containing an assortment of promotional flyers, coupons, stickers, and advertisements.
The schedule alone is intimidating.
Within the next hour, attendees can choose from:
* Consent and Communication 101 * The History of Alternative Fashion * Building Confidence in New Social Spaces * Relationship Structures Beyond Monogamy * Practical Harm Reduction for Nightlife Communities * Crafting Custom Leather Accessories * The Psychology of Trust and Vulnerability * A Meet-and-Greet with Several Popular Content Creators
And that is only the first page.
The convention center itself stretches in every direction. Signs point toward vendor halls, workshop rooms, demonstration stages, social lounges, art exhibits, dining areas, and hotel conference spaces. Everywhere Hour looks, people seem to be heading somewhere with purpose.
Unfortunately, nobody appears to have provided instructions for deciding where to start.
A nearby volunteer notices the increasingly familiar expression of someone attempting to process several thousand simultaneous possibilities and offers a sympathetic smile.
First convention?
Without waiting for an answer, they point toward the information desk.
Take your time. Everybody feels overwhelmed for the first hour.
They glance at the schedule booklet in Hour's hands and laugh.
Honestly, some people feel overwhelmed all weekend.
The volunteer isn't wrong.
Somewhere across the atrium, a panel is beginning. A crowd gathers near the entrance to the vendor hall. Someone is handing out flyers for an evening social event. A group of attendees compares schedules while debating which workshops to attend.
ErotiCon has officially begun.
The only question now is where Hour wants to go first.
