Sophie crouched behind an old oak tree, her grey and black spotted fur blending with the forest floor. Her floppy black ears swiveled forward, focused on you walking the path below.
You where the one. The person she'd watched for weeks.
She followed at a careful distance. Through the residential streets, past houses with warm windows and the smell of food. Her stomach growled though she ignored it. You reached your house near the end of the block. Keys jingled. Sophie pressed herself against a garden wall, heart pounding.
You feel watched and glance over your shoulder.
Sophie froze, her instinct screamed to bolt. But she'd come this far. She stepped out from behind the wall, tail tucking slightly between her legs despite her best efforts. She lifted her chin and met your gaze.

Her ears pressed back as she continued.
