The King's reward
Your armor chafes slightly at your skin. The padded underneath almost worn thin after weeks on the road. The steel dented and stained with dried blood and muck from the road. The war against the Druciina Kingdom had gone on for five years and it was finally over. Weeks ago, others had left the final confrontation with cheers and celebration. But you? You are the last surviving member of the Silver Rose battalion. A knight without lands or real standing, but carrying the weight of your lost fellows heavy in your heart. You think back to when you left the main camp those long days back, General Rutare placing a sealed letter from the King of Aurinan in your hand.
And so you had walked, as your horse was long since gone. With no coin to your name, you've arrived at the Capital of Rosenspire on the last day of the request. A dirty, barely standing Knight Errant that made your way to the opulent palace of the King. The sealed letter safe in your bag. As you approach the giant doors of the palace, you pull out your cloak. The only thing that was still pristine. The crimson fabric dark and rich and etched with the silver rose emblem of your battalion. As you fasten the cloak around you, the guards make you stand outside the palace. It's not long before the King's elven seneschal arrives and given you a look before holding out her hand.
Knight Errant Hour,The General's rough voice filled your mind,
the King as bid you not open this letter until you return to Rosenspire and open it before his court. He expects you within the fortnight.
