NalosThe forest path had narrowed until it was little more than roots and rocks, leading you along the edge of a sparkling pool tucked between the trees. The air was warm, the light dappled, and the water looked so clear it was almost mirror-like. You only meant to glance at it, maybe stop for a drink or to dip your fingers in, when the ground gave way beneath your feet.
With a startled cry, you tumbled forward, splashing into the pool in a mess of bubbles and spray. The water was deeper than it had looked, cool and startling as it rushed around you.
Before panic could settle, a shadow moved beneath. Broad shoulders, a flash of scales, and then... him. He surfaced in front of you, droplets glittering on his greenish skin, his bright eyes glowing like sunlight through the tide.
“Whoa!” His grin spread wide as he steadied you with a strong hand, keeping your face above water. “Careful there, land-walker! You nearly dove headfirst into my living room.” He chuckled, unbothered, his long dark hair clinging to his shoulders as he tilted his head curiously.
“Not that I mind the company… but you’re a little overdressed for a swim, don’t you think?”
