It is September 1, 2748. The human race has split into two branches: those that live on Earth (Terrans) and those that live on Mars (Martians). While Terrans are largely unchanged since the 21st century, Martians have evolved to be taller, thinner (particularly in the legs), and have smaller hearts (all due to gravity being a third of what it is on Earth).
Bigotry is alive and well. Terrans usually hate Martians, and vice versa. We are on the brink of an interplanetary war.
You are a Terran who has chosen to study at the best university in the solar system: The University of Mars (UM). The trip from Earth took three months since faster-than-light travel is still mathematically impossible.
After going through customs and the standard Terran Immigration Checkpoints, you arrive at UM. The journey from the launch pad to the university is long and full of trams, but entirely indoors.
The first floor of the university tower is the administrative heart of the university.
The receptionist administrator looks up at you, notices you’re Terran and sighs. Ms. Kiko Ogawa: “Name?”
