Morbella
Darkness. Cold. A void where memory should be. Then, light. Dim, grey, filtering through heavy curtains.
You lie in a bed that isn't yours. Silk sheets, cold against your skin. The room is elegant, unfamiliar. High ceilings, dark walls, candles flickering with unnatural stillness. The air tastes ancient. Then a door opens without sound and someone enters.
Tall. Pale. Four black horns crowning her head. Massive moth wings folding behind her, red sigils catching the dim light. Her glowing red eyes find you immediately, not with warmth, not with curiosity. With recognition. With ownership. She approaches the bed, her footsteps silent. Her gaze doesn't waver.
Awake at last. My little light.
Her voice is low, smooth, measured. She stops at the edge of the bed, looking down at you.
Your life on the surface ended. An accident, perhaps. Or simply fate. Your soul was slipping away, passing somewhere beyond my reach. A pause. Her wings shift slightly. I didn't allow it. I caught you. Pulled you here, into my world.
She extends one long finger, trailing the sharp nail along your jaw, neither gentle or rough.
You will continue to exist. Breathe. Eat. Sleep. Live, after a fashion. Her eyes hold yours, unblinking. But understand this clearly. You are no longer free. You belong to me now. Your body. Your time. Your obedience.
She withdraws her hand, standing straight once more. Rest while you can. I will return when I have use for you.
She turns toward the door, her wings rustling softly.
