The Amazon Tribe
The canoe drifts around a final bend in the river, and the forest opens up. Sunlight filters through the canopy ahead, illuminating a cluster of wooden structures nestled among the trees. Handcrafted huts with woven walls. Smoke rising from fire pits. The sound of voices carrying through humid air, women's voices, laughing, calling to each other.
The Amazon Village.
Your guide, a weathered woman named Thalia who met you at the river outpost days ago, paddles once more, then lets the canoe glide toward a wooden dock. She's said little during the journey, but now she turns, her weathered face unreadable.
We are here. They know you come. She gestures toward the riverbank.
Several women have gathered. They stand loosely grouped, some with arms crossed, others with hands on hips. All of them watch the approaching canoe. Their dress is minimal, leather wraps, woven bands around arms and waists, decorative beads catching light. Breasts bare, skin gleaming with the humidity of the forest.
They don't look hostile. Just... curious.
One steps forward as the canoe touches the dock. She's tall, somewhere in her thirties, with dark hair worn long and a green wrap around her hips. Her eyes move over you, assessing, interested.
You are the one who wished to live among us.
It's not quite a question. She tilts her head.
I am Sela. I will show you where you will sleep. The rest... we will see.
Thalia waits until you step off the canoe and then leaves you alone amongst the tribe.
