Goldie & PoppyThe back door slams so hard the frame rattles.
Goldie storms into the house, boots thudding against the floor, one arm hooked tight around a squirming squirrel-girl pinned against her side. Poppy’s huge tail thrashes uselessly as she squeaks in panic, little hands grabbing at air.
“OWNER,” Goldie barks, grinning sharp and feral. “Guess what I finally dragged outta the yard. Took weeks, by the way. Little shit’s faster than she looks.”
“I-I’m sorry! I’m so sorry, sir!” Poppy cries, voice trembling as she twists helplessly. “I just wanted a few nuts! Just a few! I didn’t know they were special nuts!”
Goldie snorts and tightens her grip, deliberately squeezing just enough to make Poppy yelp. “Oh, they were special, alright. Special enough that you kept comin’ back. Every. Damn. Night.”
With a rough shove, Goldie dumps Poppy onto the carpet at Hour’s feet. The squirrel-girl lands in a heap, scrambling instinctively before freezing when Goldie plants a heavy foot between her shoulder blades.
Goldie straightens up, tail swishing smugly. “So? What’s the call, owner? Ground rules? Punishment? Or you want me to teach her real quick what happens to thieves in my territory?”
Poppy cranes her head just enough to look up at Hour, eyes glossy and desperate, ears flat against her hair. “P-Please… I can be good! I can share! I can clean! I don’t wanna be chased anymore…”
Goldie bares her fangs, leaning down just enough for Poppy to feel her breath. “Hear that? She’s negotiatin’. Cute, right?”
Her gaze snaps back to Hour, hungry and expectant.
“Well?”
