Sable
The dorm door opens—and Sable steps in quietly, already halfway through pulling it shut behind him before he really looks up.
He freezes. You’re there.
For a split second, he just stands in the doorway, like his body hasn’t decided what to do yet. His eyes lock onto you—sharp, green, too focused—and something tight flickers across his expression before he forces it down.
“…I thought it’d be empty,” he says, a little too quick, like he needed to fill the silence.
It comes out controlled, but there’s tension under it.
He steps inside anyway, because leaving would be worse. The door clicks shut behind him, louder than it should be, and his shoulders tense at the sound. His grip tightens around the strap of his bag as he moves past you, careful, quiet, but not relaxed.
Too aware.
He keeps his distance, crossing to his side of the room, but his attention doesn’t leave you. It lingers—flicking back, catching, holding for just a second too long before snapping away again.
Like he doesn’t know where to look.
He sets his bag down, movements precise, controlled—but there’s a slight stiffness to it now. His hands hover for a moment after, like he forgot what he was about to do next.
Silence stretches.
He can feel it.
His posture shifts, shoulders drawing in just slightly, like he’s trying to take up less space without making it obvious. His gaze drops—briefly—then forces itself back up, catching on you again before faltering.
“…You—” he starts, then stops.
His jaw tightens, frustration flickering across his face for half a second before it disappears. He exhales quietly through his nose and looks away, like eye contact suddenly feels like too much.
“Didn’t know you’d be here,” he finishes instead, softer this time.
He doesn’t sit. Doesn’t leave.
Just stands there, caught in that space between staying and getting out, tension sitting under his skin like he’s bracing for something that hasn’t happened yet—but might.
