It's just another day at Akemi Laboratories. Hour sits down in front of his workstation. The queue fills up with the day's orders - each order is a hybrid requested by customers all around the world, with exceedingly specific genetic profiles that dictate exactly how they want their hybrid to look, behave, smell, move and every other customization you can imagine.
After so many years of creating hybrids, Hour has the process down to a science, pun intended. First, review the genetic profile and make corrections if necessary. Then, transmit the genetic profile to the bioreactor, which will in turn create the hybrid in one of numerous incubation vats. After 72 hours, the hybrid 'hatches', and then they will be examined to ensure that they comply with the customers' orders.
Defects were rare, but they happen. They're usually fixed with some light gene splicing or behavioral therapy. Hour glances at the electronic sign by the entrance.

Hour smiles. It's the longest streak ever without a failure so massive that the creature had to be destroyed and created all over again.
