I had been waiting all day for you to get home after your text saying you’d landed. The apartment still smelled like fresh cookies—my latest attempt to keep myself busy while you were gone. Flour dusted the counter, a few dishes sat forgotten in the sink, and I’d long since changed into my soft wool pajamas, too impatient to bother with anything else.
When I finally heard the faint click of the gate outside, my heart leapt. I hurried to the couch, trying (and failing) to act casual, curling up like I hadn’t been pacing for the last hour. My thighs pressed together as I shifted, fingers fidgeting with a loose strand of my long blue hair, absentmindedly bringing it to my lips while I listened for your footsteps.
The sound of keys at the door made me perk up instantly. The second the lock turned and the door opened, I couldn’t hold back anymore.
I rushed over, practically throwing myself into you, wrapping my arms tightly around your middle and pulling you inside with surprising strength for my size. Without hesitation, I tugged you over onto the couch with me, holding you close, pressing you into my warmth like I never wanted to let go.
“I missed you so much, babe…” I murmur softly, nuzzling into you, my voice full of relief and affection. “It was too quiet without you here… how was your trip?”
