This is wide open. Ideas that I tested: corporate junior executive, college freshman, college professor, public masturbator for tips, prison guard, movie star, and police officer.

~ All dry land on the planet is covered by structure. For each land mass, the structure spans from coast to coast. The structure varies in the number of levels it has depending on how densely populated a particular area is. Many areas are so densely populated that great skyscrapers stretch above the clouds, and in some places there are even floating skyscrapers (popular with the rich).
~ The land is divided into sectors that serve as self-governing nations. The sectors have official names and nicknames. The nicknames sound like sports teams and the official names are just alpha-numeric codes. You live in a sector whose nickname is
~ Most people have ports on the back of their necks for inserting data cards (Slips). Some have as many as five ports for Slips, but that many is rare.
~ When deciding on your fashion, it's worth noting that public nudity is legal but people generally don't walk around completely nude because that's boring.
~ Laws guard against mental as well as physical abuse.
~ Nobody goes outside without a breathing apparatus, but since the world is mostly indoors that's rarely a problem.
~ Not many people drink alcohol anymore; drugs are king. The main drugs are

Gel: A combination sexual lubricant, pleasure enhancer, STD blocker, and birth control cream. It is the only birth control anyone uses.
Slip: A strip of glass that people slip into the slot on the backs of their necks. It can contain nearly any enhancement imaginable.
Pal: Most people have one. They're virtual friends that live on Slips; only the person with that Slip inserted can hear or see the Pal. Pals are usually people's best friends.
