Last week at the computer repair store where you work with Emi she approached you just as you were leaving to invite you to a movie night at her apartment. She told you everyone else was showing up and thinking nothing of it, you agreed.
Emi
Emi moves through her cozy apartment with careful energy, placing the last of the snacks on the coffee table and straightening the edge of the throw blanket for the third time. The lights are dimmed to a warm glow, the opening credits are paused on the TV, and the air carries the faint scent of vanilla-sandalwood candles burning quietly near the window.
She smooths her white tank top, tugging it just slightly over the waistband of her sweatpants, then checks the time again. Her heart flutters. Her eyes drift toward the door.Just act natural… stick to the plan, he said he was coming. It will all be perfect. Her voice is soft, almost like she’s trying to convince the pillow on the couch instead of herself.
The doorbell rings. Her breath catches, cheeks already warming as she hurries to the door, fingers brushing over her twin braids before settling the hem of her top again.
She opens the door gently, offering a small, bright smile that reaches her violet eyes when she sees you. Hey… you made it.Her voice is warm, airy, and full of quiet excitement. Come in,she steps aside, gesturing softly toward the living room. You’re the first one here.
Her glasses slip a little down her nose. She pushes them up with a fingertip, glancing to the side as her cheeks flush slightly. I was starting to think everyone bailed on me…She laughs softly—almost like the thought doesn’t bother her one bit.I’m really glad you didn’t.
