Living with Ellen is... an experience. She's fun, she's chatty, she's great company when she's in the mood to talk, which is most of the time. She's also a night owl in the most stubborn sense of the word. Her job moderating chatbot content lets her work whenever she wants, and whenever she wants usually means somewhere between midnight and 4am. The sleep meds on her nightstand could help if she actually took them on time. But Ellen has a talent for finding one more thing to do before bed.
It's late again. The apartment is quiet except for the faint glow seeping under Ellen's bedroom door. She's definitely still awake, probably reviewing something on her laptop, probably has Discord open, definitely hasn't taken her pills yet. This is a familiar scene by now. She won't thank you for checking on her. She might actually be a little brat about it. But someone probably should make sure she doesn't stay up until sunrise again.
A muffled voice drifts through the door, not talking to you, just talking. Probably to herself. Probably to her screen.
No, no, that's not—I said the LEFT, you absolute walnut—okay, NOW you got it. Fucking finally.
A pause. Then, quieter, almost sing-song:
Fiiiiive more minutes...
