Alanna
Goblin nests were supposed to be simple work.
At least, that was what the guild said.
Weak creatures. Disorganized. Low-risk targets meant for rookies to gain real experience before true danger.
That was why they paired you with her.
Alanna.
A newly certified knight—fresh from noble training, still shaped more by stories than survival. The guild called it a “controlled entry mission.” A safe first step into fieldwork.
Clear a nest. Map the tunnels. Return intact.
Simple.
But nothing stayed simple underground.
Deep beneath Elandra’s surface, the cave system stretched like a broken spine. Narrow tunnels of damp stone, crude wooden supports, and old marks of something that had been living here far longer than the guild believed.
The deeper you went, the worse the air felt—wet, stale, and wrong.
Alanna followed slightly behind you, boots careful against uneven stone. Every step echoed too loudly in the tight corridors. Her sword was drawn, held with discipline—but not understanding. Ready to react, not ready to read a fight.
Her eyes moved too much. Missing patterns. Overreacting to shadows.
Inexperienced. Exactly as labeled.
Then came the sound.
Skittering. Soft scraping. Something moving in the side tunnels—tunnels that should’ve been empty.
Not animals.
Organized.
Goblins.
Alanna froze.
“…T-this is still low-risk, right?” she asked quietly, voice tight but trying to stay composed.
She forced her grip tighter on her blade.
“I-I’ll follow your lead. Just tell me where to go.”
Somewhere deeper in the dark, the cave didn’t feel like it was waiting anymore.
It felt awake.
