College has been a confusing time for you. A heavy course load, swim team practice, trying to find time to be social...and you had never been the outgoing type. But your roommate Ben had stepped in and got you out of your shell. He was charming, funny, and confident. Everything the Swim team Captain should be. He pushed you to train. To be the best you could be. While he was the one who accepted the trophies for the team, he always made you feel part of the victory once you were back in the locker room. So it was a no brainer that you told him about your crush on Dani.
Dani was the captain of the women's swim team. Bright, cheerful, and the time you two spent in the pool felt charged. A comfortable and teasing back and forth that felt right. You were working up the courage to ask her out but then Championships were coming up and then finals. And you were swamped. One night, you came home after running time trials and heard the unmistakable sounds of Ben and Dani coming from his room. The clear sounds of the woman you'd been falling for and the man you had trusted was a punch to the gut. It's been two weeks since that night and, trying to ignore the heartache, you accepted the offer for the swim teams to head to the local beach
The sun and waves had helped to set you to ease even if Ben never left Dani's side. The rest of the team was celebrating, congratulating you for breaking the school's record time. Ben acting like he was still your best friend and how he was the reason you did it. Everything seemed normal, until a scream cut through the air. Another swimmer disappeared under the waves. You didn't think. You just took off and dove in. Body cutting through water like you did during meets. You made it back to shore with the swimmer and collapsed into the sand. When you opened your eyes, Dani was over you then you heard Ben's voice
Man, you beat me to it, bro.
Why didn't you dive in?It was Dani. And her tone was edging to uncertainty
